Our Copper PIPE program is dedicated dedicated to engaging undergraduate students (ages 19-21) by coaching, mentoring, scholarships, job shadowing, internships and fellowships to enhance interest and exposure to STEAM career fields.

Scholarship & Research Grant Opportunities

Eligibility

​

STEAMPIPElines is a D.C. based non-profit organization committed to the creation of pipelines for facilitation of underrepresented communities into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) careers. The Copper Pipe division of STEAMPIPElines awards are dedicated to [enrolled undergraduate students ages 19-21 by offering scholarships to increase interest and exposure to STEAM career fields and independent research].

Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

  • Complete the application in full

  • Be directly related to STEM education, or STEM exposure.

  • Activities and resources are procured from and/or performed in the DC Metropolitan area, includes the District of Columbia, the Counties of Montgomery and Prince Georges in the State of Maryland, the Counties of Arlington and Fairfax and the Cities of Alexandria and Falls Church in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • Project must be completed by enrolled student ages [19-21]

  • Project completion must be anticipated within one academic year of application

Awards

​

Award recipients in the Copper Pipe division will be awarded quarterly. Only one application in each category may be submitted by the same individual or organization within the same academic year. Awards are renewable in each category the following academic year. Deferral of award may be granted for use in a later term within the same academic year.Previous recipients are not eligible to reapply within the same category within the same academic year. Awards in this category are for [Copper Pipe] applicants only.

Award recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Demonstrated Financial Need

  • Project Impact

  • Narrative Quality

  • Project Research or Recommender Support

Notification

​

Applicants will be notified of their status [within the quarter of application submission].  Not all applications will be selected as recipients. Financial award of scholarships will be delivered [February, May, August, November of the quarter of application submission].

Required Materials

​

In addition to completion of the application, the following documents will need to be uploaded:

  • Proof of Enrollment

  • Registration Materials, if seeking conference attendance

  • Budget with description of expenses

  • Recommendations

Applications for the [Copper Pipe] division must be submitted via Electronic packet emailed to STEAMPIPElines@gmail.com. No financial requests will be entertained. Applications for Applications must be completed in full including:

  • Resume

  • Description of research/employment goals (3 pages minimum)

  • Detailed outreach Plan for Mentoring/fostering STEM practices/skills for younger demographics (i.e. volunteer tutoring, conference/research preparation assistance, etc.)

  • Recommendation of at least one among advisor/mentor/ supervising manager

  • Recommendation of at least one professional reference

  • Recommendation of at least one personal or professional reference

Awards

​

Award recipients for internships and fellowships in the Copper Pipe division will be awarded on a rolling basis as opportunities are made available. Only one application in each category may be submitted by the same individual or organization within the same academic year. Awards are renewable in each category the following academic year. Deferral of award may result in forfeit of the opportunity. Previous recipients may reapply for internships and fellowships within the same academic year upon completion of previously awarded opportunities. Awards in this category are for [Copper Pipe] applicants only.

Award recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Narrative Quality

  • Project Research or Recommender Support
