Our Brass PIPE program is dedicated to engaging graduate students by coaching, mentoring, scholarships, job shadowing, research and fellowships to foster transition to STEAM career fields.

Eligibility

STEAMPIPElines is a D.C. based non-profit organization committed to the creation of pipelines for facilitation of underrepresented communities into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) careers. The Brass Pipe division of STEAMPIPElines awards are dedicated to [engaging currently enrolled graduate and university students (ages 21 and over) by activities research to to foster transition to STEAM career fields].

Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

  • Complete the application in full

  • Be directly related to STEM education, or STEM exposure.

  • Activities and resources are procured from and/or performed in the DC Metropolitan area, includes the District of Columbia, the Counties of Montgomery and Prince Georges in the State of Maryland, the Counties of Arlington and Fairfax and the Cities of Alexandria and Falls Church in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • Project must be completed by enrolled student ages [21 and over]

  • Project completion must be anticipated within one academic year of application

 

Application

for the [Brass Pipe] division must be submitted via Electronic packet emailed to STEAMPIPElines@gmail.com. Applications must be completed in full including:

  • Project Title

  • Project Manager Name

  • Project Manager Title

  • Project Manager Affiliation

  • Project Description (5 pages minimum)

  • Project Timeline

  • Plan for Communication of Project Updates; statement of leadership (1 page minimum)

  • recommendation of at least one among advisor/mentor/supervising manager/project team members/ prior research partners

  • Project Funding Request with budget

 

Awards

Award recipients in the Brass Pipe division will be awarded quarterly. Only one application in each category may be submitted by the same individual or organization within the same academic year. Awards are renewable in each category the following academic year. Deferral of award may be granted for use in a later term within the same academic year. Previous recipients are not eligible to reapply within the same category within the same academic year. Awards in this category are for [Brass Pipe] applicants only.

Award recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Demonstrated Financial Need

  • Project Impact

  • Narrative Quality

  • Project Research or Recommender Support

 

Notification

This is a competitive award. Not all applications will be selected as recipients. Recipients will be notified of their status [within the quarter of application submission]. Financial award of scholarships will be delivered [February, May, August, November of the quarter of application submission].

Required Materials

In addition to completion of the application, the following documents will need to be uploaded:

  • Proof of Enrollment

  • Registration Materials, if seeking conference attendance

  • Budget with description of expenses

  • Recommendations
